Cedar College has been involved in teaching a VET course in Hospitality (Kitchen Operations) since 2013, giving many students the opportunity to pursue career pathways in the Hospitality industry, whilst continuing further study. The Certificate II in Hospitality (Kitchen Operations) training gives students a head start in any commercial kitchen. Students study hygiene, food safety and cooking methods. Teamwork, as well as practical skills are encouraged when the student works in our commercial kitchen.

The VET Students are currently learning about salads, dressings, hot & cold appetisers and antipasto platters. They attend class from 1:30pm – 5:30pm each Wednesday, completing theory, discussions and around three hours of hands-on kitchen experience weekly. The VET students have started organising their industry work placements with some exciting positions planned at Sweet Lola’s dessert kitchen, a Cedar favourite, and the Government House Kitchen.

The VET in Schools course allows the student to combine a vocational pathway with their general education curriculum as they continue to work towards their SACE. In this way students can keep their options open to pursue further full-time or part-time vocational education (such as TAFE courses) or move to higher education, through various university pathways.

Graduates of this course will have credits towards a range of hospitality courses offered throughout Australia. Le Cordon Bleu, Adelaide campus, offers vocational, undergraduate and post-graduate study programmes. TAFE SA offers a variety of Hospitality courses, including the Advanced Diploma of Hospitality/Bachelor of Innovation and Entrepreneurship – University of Adelaide Pathway, and also a Bachelor of Hospitality Management.
