During Semester 2, the Year 10 IT group have worked on a number of innovative programs.

This year, Cedar College has been accredited as an Oracle Academy, which allows us to award an International qualification to Year 10 students completing the “Alice 3” course and final exam, finishing with a project that was either a 3D animation movie or 3D game. Year 11 and 12 students worked with the Greenfoot application using Java to produce retro games such as Snake, Breakout and Pac-Man, and we look forward to more students taking advantage of this training opportunity next year. Georgia, Muhammad, Isabella, Panay, CJ, Sneh, Reeya, Elyse, Marcus and Elliot were all successful in completing Java Foundations this semester, and were awarded their certificates last Thursday.

The Year 10 group also competed in the Sumo-Wrestling competition, using RobotC to program a Lego Robot. The Robot was also engineered to be able to withstand direct force, maximise traction and enhance manoeuvrability. The eventual winners were Sneh and Muhammed, closely followed by Zac and CJ.

There will be further exciting developments in Information Technology next year, with the new Digital Technologies SACE curriculum for Year 11 commencing in 2018. This curriculum is focused on collaboration, innovation and project outcomes and will continue to Year 12 in 2019, replacing examination.
