Final Days, First Days
As we draw close to the halfway mark of Term 4, our Year 12s are currently undertaking their final exams and preparing to finish their schooling at Cedar.
Our prayers continue to be with our Year 12s, and we look forward to celebrating with them at their Graduation in a few week’s time. This week, we also welcomed 54 new Reception students and their families to Cedar College, for their first school visit. These students will complete Year 12 in 2033 – it’s hard to even imagine what school will look like then!
Around the Campus
This fortnight we also welcomed new students to the Middle School, the Year 4s returned from camp, we enjoyed the Junior Primary Sports Day, and heard of some great student achievements in both sport and studies.

A Colourful Sports Day
We enjoyed beautiful, balmy weather for this year’s Junior Primary Sports Day, which was held in Week 2 of Term 4.
We were especially glad to be able to have so many parents and friends come along and support our teams after so many other sporting events had to be cancelled in 2020.
The day started with our awesome Health Hustle and House chants, ensuring that the Junior Primary students were energised and ready to go – Go teams!
Fun Events and Games
Highlights from the day included the always fun and wet Manhattan Transfer as well as the sack race and egg and spoon race. The students showed how much their physical skills are developing in the long jump and Vortex throw and were so fast in the sprints!
At the end of the day, after relays (including Parents vs Year 6 Sports Captains!) the scores were very close, but it was the mighty Blues that came away with the win! Go GOULD!
The final results were: Gould 1st with 586 points, Jackson 2nd on 548 points, Bradman 3rd with 536 points, and Laver close behind with 532 points.
Special thanks to our support staff, our wonderful teachers and SSO’s, who ran the program so smoothly, and our amazing grounds and maintenance staff who set up and packed away. A fun, energetic day was had by all!

Week 4 News and Notices
From the Head of High School
In Week 3 of this term, we had the pleasure of welcoming back Mrs Sally Jones after 12 months of maternity leave. Mrs Jones is now teaching Year 8L English and a Year 10 English class, formerly taught by Mrs Montgomery.
We are grateful for Mrs Montgomery’s contribution to these classes since the beginning of Term 1, and we are delighted that she will continue teaching her other classes for the remainder of this term.

A reminder that Term 4 tuition fees were due by the end of Week 2 of this term.
If you have not yet finalised your 2020 tuition fees, or have an approved payment plan in place, please contact the Finance Office on 8261 3377 to organise payment. If you make a payment directly to the school’s bank account, please include your Family Reference Number (shown on the Fee Invoice, which was emailed to you) so we can ensure that the payment is allocated correctly.
Student Free Days, Term 4
Please note that Friday December 4 is a Student Free Day for all students.
The final day of classes for Middle School students (7-9) is Thursday December 3, and for Primary School students (R-6) is Wednesday December 9.
2021 Parent & Student Agreement Forms
A reminder that the 2021 Parent & Student Agreement Forms, as well as Medical and Instrumental forms, were due back in Week 3.
If you have not returned your forms, please do so promptly. If you require a replacement set of forms, please contact the relevant School Office.
2020 Year Book
One copy of the 2020 Cedar College Year Book will be available for each family on the final day of Term 4, Wednesday December 9 (usually given to the youngest child). High School students may come in on this day to collect their book, otherwise they will receive it on Get Ready Day. Additional copies may be ordered from the Primary School Office, at a cost of $15 each (Year 12 students will each receive their own copy).
Term 4 Canteen Menu
Please note that the final day for lunch orders will be Monday December 7 (Week 9). The Canteen will not be taking lunch orders on the final day of school (December 9).
School Banking
For students who take part in the CommBank School Banking program, please be aware that the last day for school banking will be Thursday 3rd December (Week 8).
Sibling Enrolment Forms
A reminder that it is the responsibility of parents/caregivers to lodge any sibling enrolment forms in a timely manner, which in most instances is three years prior to the proposed starting year. While we do give priority to sibling enrolments, this is only possible when the appropriate Sibling Application Form is lodged in time, as many year levels fill three years prior. Please speak to our Enrolment Officer, Lara, for further information.

Our School Assemblies and Chapels are held on Fridays at 8:50am.
Please note that Chapels and Assemblies will be attended by students only during Term 4.
Should guidelines for large gatherings change, parents/caregivers will be informed.
Primary School News
Year 4s Dig Deep
Camp highlights included steering a boat along the Murray river, digging for fossils in a cave, enjoying a safari trailer ride and sheep show, archery, pedal carts, and working our way through a crazy maze!
We also experienced two special nights of singing praises to our Creator under the night light of His moon and stars. We had tremendous fun with all our camp activities, but the best part of camp was perhaps the strengthening of friendships as we shared this wonderful time together.
Student Favourites
Here’s what some of the Year 4s enjoyed most about camp:
“Year 4 camp was AMAZING! My favourite thing about camp was the Murray River boat ride because we got to drive the boat and we went really fast and got splashed! I loved the gym too.” – Mya
“Year 4 camp was an amazing experience for me. My favourite thing was caving. Caving was fun because we got to find fossils and keep them!” – Cobie
“My favourite thing about camp was archery because I got a bullseye and I also liked the maze and go-karts”. – Iylah
“We had three groups. Each group went on a trailer ride, did archery, caving and a boat ride on the Murray River. In the cave, you got to find a fossil and take it home.” – Ania
“My favourite bit was the caving and go-karting. Even if I did it for hours, I wouldn’t get bored of it. I really liked the sheep show because we got to see Shaun the Sheep, but in real life.” – Chloe
“My favourite things were the Murray River boat ride where we learnt about peregrine falcons and fish.” – Reuben
Netball News
The Cedar College Upper Primary netball teams started Term 4 off with great results.
It was a competitive, but wet day on the Golden Grove netball courts, and each of our Upper Primary teams had a lot of fun and gave it their all.
Some highlights of the day were the Year 5/6 Gold girls’ netball team was undefeated and won first place in their competition. The Grand Final match against the Sunrise Gold girls’ team was an action packed back-and-forth match, which saw our Cedar Gold girls coming away victorious. The Year 3/4 boys netball team also were also undefeated throughout their competition, ensuring a promising future for Cedar College netball.
With the SACSA netball carnival now ‘in the books’, our Cedar College Upper Primary basketball teams are training hard and preparing for their SACSA basketball carnival that is coming up in a few weeks time. Go Cedar!

Middle School News
Welcome to Cedar!
The Cedar Middle School opened up on Tuesday 27th October, to welcome students who will begin at Cedar in 2021.
This day was previously called High School Transition Day. The name was changed this year to be even clearer about the nature of the day, and how welcoming we are as a college.
It was a delight to introduce the mostly Year 6 students to key staff, facilities and each other throughout the day. Students were particularly excited as they worked in small groups across the campus during the orienteering activity. Students participated in four Middle School classes getting a taste of life in the middle as we profiled Humanities, Visual Art, Digital Technologies and Science.
New Connections
The group of nearly 90 students enjoyed a shared lunch and making many new connections with each other. It was a delight to welcome so many lovely students and families to the college community. We trust these students will look forward to commencing their learning in 2021 at Cedar with a clear understanding of how to find their way around the campus and with relationships already forming among peers and with Cedar staff.

Senior School News
Student Achievements
It has been exciting to hear of some of our Senior School students’ recent achievements.
German Film Award
Congratulations to Year 10 German students Grace, David and Madison! Their entry in the South Australian Student German Film Competition won first prize, receiving an award of $200.
The 2020 competition task was to advertise South Australia as a tourist attraction, targeting a German speaking audience. The students invested great effort and creativity into writing an original script. The Year 10 students then selected a range of photos depicting South Australia, and used their German vocal talents to record an accompanying voiceover. Their 4-minute long production was an excellent achievement, which resulted in the first place award.
VET Apprenticeship
During the year, many students undertook Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses, both on-site and off-site. Despite unusual circumstances this year, our students worked hard to complete their courses, which have provided them with skills, training and knowledge for their future.
We would like to congratulate Year 12 Student, Jack T, for being offered two electrical apprenticeships. Both companies were very impressed with the high calibre of Jack’s performance during the interview and testing process. Over the last two years at Cedar College, Jack completed his Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start) at Grand Junction Trade Centre, attending one day a week, and completing 85 hours of work placement during his holidays.
In the new year, Jack will begin his apprenticeship with the National Electrical and Communication Association (NECA), and we wish him well in his future electrical endeavours.
