Rijken Cup 2025
Rijken Cup Netball, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball, Soccer, and Touch Football, sees epic finish.
Epic Finish for Rijken Squad
The Rijken Cup is a South Australian Christian Schools Association (SACSA) initiative that brings together member schools for a week-long sports tournament for students in Years 11 and 12.
Competing in Division 1 against seven other schools, the week of events included Netball, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball, Soccer, and Touch Football.
Cedar’s involvement is spearheaded by our Sports Coordinator, Mrs Bek Robinson, who works with Senior School students and captains to develop the squad throughout Terms 1 and 2. After setting a high standard in recent years, the team was determined to continue the tradition, growing in confidence and determination as the week progressed.
From the Captains
Our Rijken 2025 captains, Kiara and Lachy, have written an overview of the competition, held in Week 4 this term:
Rijken 2025 went amazingly! Watching everyone participate and support one another made the entire week so special.
We are so proud of everyone who played, scored, and cheered, and we’re so thankful to all the students and families who came to watch! We’d especially love to thank Mrs Robinson for her dedication in organising the team and for her encouragement throughout the week. The tournament wouldn’t have been possible without her and the other dedicated teachers who coached and trained us in the lead-up.
There were so many memorable (and intense) moments — especially in the boys’ soccer — but our personal highlights were on the final day, when both the girls and boys won the Grand Final in Touch Football against King’s. The boys had lost to King’s in the minor round and, with only two subs, pushed through exhaustion to win 4–1. The girls were undefeated coming into the Grand Final but didn’t let the pressure of being favourites overwhelm them. After going into the second half at 1–1, they ran away with the game, finishing 4–1.
It was hilarious watching Bella get fouled again and again in basketball, struggling to land her free throws — then, amazingly, sinking them during the Grand Final against Endeavour! Lauren Franklin was kicking bullets in soccer, leading the girls to victory in the Soccer Grand Final against Cornerstone, after shaking off our rivals Tyndale in the semis.
Hearing that the girls had won the overall Rijken was a huge surprise — but 100% deserved — and it was an honour to collect the plaque on behalf of the incredible girls of 2025.
We’re so grateful to every student who participated and made the week so enjoyable! We look forward to reliving the memories at the Rijken MVP Night next term. — Kiara and Lachy, Rijken 2025 Captains
Well done to our entire Rijken Cup squad for your dedication and determination throughout the week as you represented Cedar. We’re looking forward to continuing the tradition next year!
