Term 2, Week 6
Strong Foundations, Bright Futures
Recently, I had the opportunity to attend a Christian Schools conference held in Canberra.
The event featured a diverse lineup of speakers, including education experts, lawyers, human rights commissioners, and politicians—among them, a former Prime Minister. It was a valuable opportunity to deepen my understanding of the current issues impacting education, and I was encouraged by the strong sense of camaraderie and unity shared among leaders from like-minded institutions. May you be encouraged to know that our college is part of a growing and well-supported sector, aligned with organisations that offer insight and inspiration as we strive to continually improve and be the best school we can be.
A Balanced Learning Experience
Congratulations to our Senior School participants for all their efforts during the Rijken Cup. It was an exhausting but rewarding week. I thoroughly enjoyed getting out to watch some of their games.
However, sport is not our only focus at Cedar College. We believe in a holistic approach to education, offering our students diverse opportunities across multiple curricular areas to gain valuable experience for their future. Some events this term include the Year 10 Drama performance, and the High School Winter Jam (formerly Winter Soulstice). We also have many Primary School students participating in the chess tournament organised by Mr Austin.
A rigorous approach to academics is also part of our holistic philosophy. Please be praying for our Senior School students as they prepare for their upcoming exams during Week 8.

A Memorable Adventure
The Year 6 camp to Wirraway Homestead was a week bursting with adventure, laughter, and learning.
From the moment we arrived, students embraced every opportunity—whether it was trying something new, cheering each other on, or simply sharing a delicious meal together. The Year 6s tackled challenges with enthusiasm, worked as a team, and encouraged one another every step of the way.
One of the highlights was the horse program. Students were introduced to horse care, learning how to approach, groom, mount, ride, and dismount. They practised walking and trotting with confidence and even spent a peaceful morning watching a skilled trainer work patiently with a spirited young horse.
Puzzles, Herding, and Building
The Amazing Race kept everyone on their toes, solving puzzles while dodging teachers ready to spring a surprise challenge. On the low ropes, students relied on teamwork and trust to navigate the course, while sheep herding proved more difficult than expected, with uncooperative sheep testing everyone’s patience. Shelter building brought out creativity and archery tested our aim, with some impressive apple hits.
During the bushwalk, students connected with God’s creation, learning about native flora and fauna and pausing at a high point to call out the quintessential Aussie: “Cooee!” They spent a few minutes in complete silence, soaking in the beauty and majesty of the natural world—a quiet reminder of God’s handiwork all around us. It truly was a camp to remember!
“There are so many fun activities at camp. First, there was horse riding in the arena, which was so much fun! In one of the paddocks, we got to do sheep herding. You had to run around to herd the sheep from one paddock to another – but there was one lazy sheep named Luke. He didn’t want to move at all! Low ropes and archery were also great, although the archery hurt your fingers. One more thing – the horse manure. There was a lot, and it smelled!” – Kuot

Mystery, Mayhem, and Melodrama!
This week, the Year 10 Drama students brought the house down with their uproarious performance of Murder in the Knife Room — a melodramatic whodunnit comedy that had the audience laughing from beginning to end.
With over-the-top characters, outrageous motives, and a script full of twists and turns, the production was an unforgettable night of mystery and mayhem.
From the moment the curtain rose, the students took the audience on a hilarious ride through a murder investigation filled with eccentric suspects, dramatic confessions, and comic misunderstandings. The energy on stage was electric, with each performer fully embracing the heightened style of melodrama and delivering their lines with comedic timing and bold characterisation.
A Team Performance
But the success of the production went far beyond the performances. It was a full team effort, with students taking charge of every element of the show. They designed and created the costumes, constructed an imaginative set filled with quirky details, and prepared props that perfectly matched the play’s tone. Hair and makeup added even more flair, while the lighting and sound team created just the right atmosphere to bring the world of the play to life.
The dedication, creativity, and collaboration shown by the students in every aspect of the production was outstanding. Their commitment to excellence and their passion for the Performing Arts were evident in every scene.
Congratulations to the entire Year 10 Drama class for putting on a polished, laugh-out-loud performance that showcased their talent and teamwork. Murder in the Knife Room was a roaring success and a wonderful celebration of what young performers can achieve when they throw themselves wholeheartedly into the creative process.

Beyond Limits, Close Friendships
“The best out of all the high school camps I’ve been on” was how one Year 11 student described the cohort’s Term 2 retreat – and for good reason!
Over three days at Nunyara Conference Centre in sunny Belair, the students immersed themselves in a range of activities that stretched and challenged them, made them think and feel, and had them running, jumping and climbing. With a strong focus on teamwork and building relationships, the students found that “it really allowed us to connect and make new friendships,” and it was “great for branching out” (and not just in the Beyond Limits tree climb!).
While some activities will always be a highlight (shooting your friends with foam-tipped arrows in the paintball-style Archery Tactics is hard to beat), some real stand-outs from this year’s camp included the team scavenger hunt (where hilarity ensued as hidden talents were revealed) and Pastor Jeremy’s famous camp quiz night. Tensions were high at its conclusion, as only half a point separated the tables in first and third place, and the final victors had to be decided in a very dramatic Nerf-gun shootout!
Building Relationships
“The activities were good, the food was good, the site is good”, said one student, and while I have to agree, I’d also add “the people were great”. The Year 11s really embraced the challenge set before them: to spend the camp looking out for one another, working together, and building each other up. They considered how they contributed to each other’s lives, and how they could allow others to input into theirs. In one of the camp’s final activities, they exchanged letters of encouragement with people they’d been looking out for and getting to know across the three days. It was wonderful to see how seriously they took it, and how much their encouragement blessed those around them.
After such a wonderful trip, it was difficult to bring it to an end. Still, memories continue, relationships grow, and life moves on. In the words of one happy camper… “cya next episode”!
