Continual Development
If you have been on the Campus recently, you would have noticed several changes taking place, often surrounded by bright orange bunting!
One project currently underway is the new covered outdoor learning area on the Gazebo Lawns, which has been made possible thanks to a Capital Works Grant from the South Australian Government. Other works currently in progress are the Upper Primary playground and Bouldering Wall, and the provision of further outdoor drink facilities and water conservation initiatives. While delays are unfortunately commonplace in the current climate, it has been exciting to see all of these projects take shape.
We are certainly blessed to come on to a beautiful campus each morning, which is currently a mix of warm autumn colours, and see continual changes and developments taking place.

A Journey Together
There are many things I love about Cedar College, and one in particular is the tradition of Year 12 prayer partners.
Each year, we allocate a group of Year 12 students to each Primary School class.
From the start of the year, we display their photos in our classroom. This is a visual reminder for the students of each person they are supporting through prayer and regular visits. Our Primary students look forward to regularly meeting and chatting with our Year 12 students. It’s lovely to see their faces light up as they ask them questions. They love asking them about what they’re studying, what they plan on doing after school, their hobbies, and what High School is like.
Our little ones look up to our Senior students (both physically and relationally), and it’s a privilege to pray for our Year 12s in our daily class prayer times. We appreciate the visits with our Year 12s, who make time in their busy schedules to come to the primary classrooms a few times each year, strengthening the bonds between the students. This allows us to get to know them and support them prayerfully as they complete their schooling, before moving on to the next chapter in their lives.
From Year 2 to Year 12
This year is particularly special to me personally. Our current Year 12 cohort are the first group of students I taught at Cedar College, when they were in Year 2. Many of them remember vividly when they were the small Primary School students who were praying for the big Year 12s! It’s lovely to see them grow, not only in height, but also into mature adults. We have a very special community at Cedar College, and it is beautiful to see the connections and friendships made between our Primary students and our Year 12s.

School Tours
Our School Tours, for prospective families, will be held during Week 6, on the mornings of June 7 & 8. Please note that this will have an impact on morning parking on these days, as the Sports Centre carpark is utilised for visiting families.
School Photo Day – Term 3
School photos are scheduled for Week 2 of Term 3, on Friday August 4. All students are required to wear full winter uniform on this day, including school jumpers and ties. There will also be the opportunity for students who are absent on this day to have their individual photo taken the following week, on Wednesday August 10. Sports team and extra curricular group photos will also be taken on Wednesday August 10. Further information will be sent home later this term.
COVID-19 Notifications
It is vitally important that parents/caregivers continue to keep children home if they are unwell or experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms. This also applies if a household member or close contact has COVID-19 and is required to quarantine.
Please continue to inform our Front Office as soon as possible, between 8:00am and 4:00pm, if your child returns a positive COVID-19 test, and immediately follow SA Health isolation requirements. We are then able to begin classroom contact tracing.
Please continue to use the special email address: [email protected] to notify the Office of a positive test.
If your child is considered a close contact, they are permitted to continue attending school if:
• the school is notified that your child is a close contact (using the above email address)
• your child strictly follows mask requirements at school
• your child adheres to up-to-date SA Health testing requirements (five tests in seven days)
if your child is unable to adhere to the testing or mask wearing requirements, please keep them home to quarantine for seven days.

The South Australian Government has recently announced a number of changes to COVID restrictions in schools, and further information will be sent to parents and caregivers regarding this.
Winter Uniform
Full winter uniform, including ties, is now required for all students. It is also important to ensure that all uniform items are clearly marked, as this provides the best chance for any lost items to be returned.
Most uniform items, including winter uniform, are now available via the Qkr! app. Please first select a delivery method to ensure that your order is placed correctly, and you will be notified when the order has been fulfilled.

Please note that currently our Chapels and Assemblies are not able to be attended by parents, due to restrictions.

Year 5 Art Mosaic
Students in Mr White’s Year 5 class have been busy this term working on a giant mosaic artwork, which is currently on display in the Admin building.
The students worked collaboratively, and also individually, enjoying the challenges that the 28-tile mural provided. We’ve asked some of the Year 5 students to tell you about how they went about putting together the project, and what they enjoyed through the experience.
Making a Masterpiece
“At the end of Term 1 through to the start of term 2, 5RW did a class project. It is a Sports Day painting. If you want to have a look at it, it is located in the Office, next to the Cedar Health Centre. It was a really fun project, and we learned a lot, including how to paint properly. We did multiple undercoats, put on a base colour, and worked on details. We painted it on a canvas, everyone got one canvas. At the end, we sprayed it with clear lacquer, which gave it a very nice glossy finish. It was a very fun and challenging project.” — Christian
“Mr White decided we were going to do an art piece of one of the Sports Day photos. We had to vote on the picture and we ended up with a great photo to copy. We were all going to get a section each that we would have to paint.
After a couple of lessons, we had already made great progress. Some of the paintings looked so good! Some people painted on others to match things up. The grass patterns and colours looked so good because some people were great at the grass and sky and some were great at painting faces and bodies. Once they had done that and everyone was finished, we sprayed them and we were finally done! After that, they got put up on the wall in a great spot, next to the nurse’s office.” — Emily
“Soon after Sports Day our class looked at some of the photos. We voted on the picture we would paint. We decided to do the race. For the first lesson, Mrs Robinson came and told us how to do the painting. Then we got the squares we would have to paint. I got one with a face. We started painting in the last week of the term and had “Art Day”. When all the paintings were done, Emma, Abigail and I did the black border around the whole picture. In the end, the painting looked great!” — Lexi

Cedar Care News
Cedar Care is Growing!
It’s so exciting when we get to see God at work, growing and developing areas at Cedar College.
A new growth area for Cedar Care (our pastoral/wellbeing team) is the addition of two new student counsellors. Mrs Tracy Morris and Miss Larissa Jones come to us with a wealth of experience and hearts to serve others and see God at work. We welcome them to the Cedar community!

Hello, I’m Mrs Morris!
I am so excited to be here at Cedar as a part of the Cedar Care team! As a qualified counsellor who has been working with young people for about a decade now, I love what I do. I completed both my Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree at Tabor College, where I specialised in Child and Adolescent Counselling. It is my privilege to hear your life stories and be someone who can walk alongside you to help navigate life’s ups and downs.
I am a mum of two children who are all grown up now and I have a lovely husband. I have a LOT of pets. Two cats, one dog, four chickens, and twenty budgies! I love catching up with friends, playing board/card games, painting, going to shows (especially comedy), taking my dog to the beach, watching movies, playing Wordle, and cooking.
I look forward to getting to know you all!

Hi, I’m Miss Jones!
I’m so excited for this year. I have been counselling young people for nearly eight years and absolutely love what I do. It’s an honour to work with young people and I’m thrilled to see the year filled with learning, growth, and healing.
I am a qualified counsellor specialising in Individual and Family Therapy. I completed my degree at the Australian Institute of Family Counselling (AIFC). I have eight years of counselling experience specialising in self-esteem, anxiety, body image, self-identity, assertiveness training, relationship strategies and group work.
My favourite things to do are catching up with friends, watching movies, playing tennis, Pilates, going on road trips, random adventures, beach days, socialising, going to musicals or the theatre, meeting new people, painting, going for hikes, and shopping. I can’t wait to get to you know you all.

Sports News
Inaugural Rijken Cup
During Term 1, Students in Years 11 and 12 formed a squad of 45 students to attend the SACSA Rijken Cup, which was held in Week 3 of Term 2.
The Cup comprised six sports, Basketball, Volleyball, Netball, Soccer, Mixed Touch and Table Tennis. The carnivals were held over four days and saw 12 South Australian Christian schools compete in the inaugural SACSA event.
The Cedar squad trained for the five weeks leading up to the event, and I want to thank them for their dedication and effort. After 40 hours of hard-fought competition, Cedar finished second in the Boys division and fifth in the Girls division, resulting in an overall third place in the Rijken Cup.
Three Grand Finals
The major highlights of the week were the Cedar boys finishing first in basketball and netball, and the Cedar mixed touch football team finishing first in the last event on Friday.
Our Sports Captains have given a wrap-up of the week:
“The Rijken Cup helped develop a greater sense of community through sport. It was an amazing week and will be a highlight for years to come. I am so proud to be a part of this team as it was a great way to develop leadership skills and sportsmanship’ – Mikayla Jankovic.
“It was a really great atmosphere in which to develop friendships with our peers and other schools. The level of sportsmanship was great to witness, and it was definitely a key sporting memory during my time at Cedar. It is absolutely something younger year levels should look forward to.” – Manuela Wani-Kana.
Positive Culture
I would like to echo these comments by saying the week has built a positive sporting culture for students that will contribute to a firm foundation in the years to come. I was most encouraged by the pre-game and post-game pump up chants, seeing the students encouraging each other and supporting other schools and the respect shown to coaches and teammates.
I would like to thank Mr Lochie Jackman, Mr Tom Giles, Mrs Emma Shaw, Mr Herman du Preez, Mr Jon Dabrow, Mr Mitch Clisby and Mrs Michelle Green for giving their time to supervise, coach and develop the students.
Finally, a huge thank you to the team. Your efforts over the week were phenomenal, and I have been blessed to be a part of something so special.

Badminton Carnival
On Thursday the 12th of May, Cedar hosted the Vista Badminton Year 10-12 Carnival, with schools from the North, North Eastern and Western zones attending the day.
There were four Cedar Boys teams entered, and all played well despite some last-minute adjustments to team dynamics.
Cedar 2 finished 3rd overall after narrowly missing out on a place in the GF round. MVP was Shanon, with a special mention of Ryan for consistency at trainings and throughout the day.
Cedar 1 MVP Jeremy and special thanks to Evan and Xavier for being willing to fill in the team, despite short notice. Jess was the Cedar 3 MVP for playing extra rounds. Cedar 4 MVP was Luke for consistency and a steady calm throughout the day. Special mention to Charlie and Conrad for being willing to play despite short notice.
Thank you to all the students for attending trainings consistently. Well done for finishing one spot higher than last year, your effort paid off!

High School News
Careers Ahead!
Cedar College hosted its first Industry Expo on Monday of Week 2, in conjunction with our Learning Conversations, for all Year 7–12 families.
There were 15 exhibitors at the Expo – Academy of Interactive Entertainment (AIE), Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation, Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA), Barkuma, Civil Apprenticeships and Careers Ltd, Clip Joint, Flinders University, International College of Hotel Management (ICHM), MAXIMA, Motor Trades Association (MTA), Music SA, PEER, Port Adelaide Enfield Council, Tabor, University of South Australia.
Parent Feedback
We received great feedback from all involved, and the exhibitors were very positive and are keen to come again. Both students and parents/caregivers found the evening beneficial.
A parent of a Middle School student observed, “There was an impressive array of industries represented. I was amazed by the many opportunities there are for students to launch off into the world. And my children loved the giveaways and showbags at each table!”
And another parent shared, “The industry expo was a fantastic way to educate students in both Senior and Middle School years about the many career options available to them. The opportunity to have many different career pathway stalls was very beneficial. It was excellent to have this opportunity on the Learning Conversations night, so parents/caregivers could also gather information for their children and become more involved in their child’s career pathways. Thank you Cedar for organising it!”

One of our Senior School students commented, “I found that the Industry Expo was a really useful way for me to narrow down my choices for post-school education and career opportunities. The booths and the corresponding spokespeople were very insightful and really helped me understand the choices and pathways available to me. Not only was it great to speak to the Universities, it was also incredible to speak to the trainee programs and the City Council. Overall, it was a really valuable experience and I highly recommend everyone to go to the next one!”
A Middle School student said, “There were a couple of things that I found helpful about the Expo at school. I was able to learn about apprenticeships and how they could help me, and also about the various pathways available after school.”
Overall, it was a great evening, and we look forward to building on the success of the Expo in future years.
