When the first bell rang back in February 1997, those first 34 students and three teachers could never have imagined the journey that had begun.

As Cedar College entered its Third Decade, building plans continued and schooling continued to adapt and evolve. The High School home room time underwent changes, and the campus would see further buildings started, and completed.

In The Primary School, it was the new CLIC building and Nature Play areas that changed the landscape. Amidst the trials of 2020, the High School would begin Stage III of its building plan, bringing the Canopy facility and new classrooms into being. While 2020 certainly caused disruption, there was much to be thankful for.

THE THIRD DECADE

2017-2018

Moving Forward

Following the 20th anniversary celebrations of the previous year, Cedar began 2017 with 820 students from R–12.

In the Primary School, the STEM and Gifted and Talented programs were further developed, the Library was transformed into a Narnian winter, and the Junior Primary presented their Christmas With the Aliens musical.

Year 12 Graduation

The High School introduced their Community Time, to further develop the culture of the school and their Sports Day resulted in the first ever tied result, the honours going to Jackson and Laver.

In the Senior School, the Year 11 and 12 Drama students performed the musical Fiddler on the Roof, and the sixth Thailand Service Trip team headed overseas at the end of the year.

At the end of 2017, the High School farewelled their long-serving Head of High School, Mrs Susan Harris, after 12 years of dedicated service at Cedar College.

The Upper Primary finished the year off with a sensational Joy concert, featuring some epic choreographed performances.

Further Growth

During 2018, the Primary School playground received an upgrade, including a new Nature Play area, and the Kiss&Drop Zone received a makeover.

Epic Flight

The start of the year saw the removal of the last original transportable, to make way for a new Primary School Science and CLIC facility.

Cedar College celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Great Air Race from England to Australia, completed by Sir Ross and Sir Keith Smith, in their famous Vickers Vimy aircraft.

Great Air Race

The High School made the transition to House team “Communities”, Laver won the inaugural Big Day In, and the Senior School Drama students presented The Importance of Being Earnest.

As the year concluded, weather conditions required the Year 12 Formal to be relocated to the spectacular National Wine Centre facility, in just a matter of hours, and another successful Thailand Service Trip team departed shortly afterwards.

THE THIRD DECADE

The new Primary School Science and CLIC facilities were opened, along with the surrounding Nature Play spaces.

Formal

The High School and Primary School sports days were both held in Term 1, before schooling was disrupted and online learning began.

Students were able to return to school for Term 2 and despite the ongoing disruptions, work continued on a new two-storey High School facility, as well as extensions to Design Technology, towards the end of the year.

The High School introduced the Cedar Cup, which was awarded to Laver, and many events were held virtually, including school tours and graduations.

The Year 12 Formal was moved on-site at the last minute, and proved to be a special evening.

Learning to Pivot

As the world changed in 2020, schooling was impacted at various times during the year.

Celebrating 25 Years

The new school year marked Cedar’s 25th anniversary, and began with the opening of the new High School classrooms and Canopy department.

Camps and sports resumed, and students enjoyed watching the live build of a LEGO Vickers Vimy aircraft, by two South Australian LEGO Masters.

Laver took the Sports Day shield for both the High School and Upper Primary.

Work continued on a new Upper Primary playground as well as the installation of new shade areas around the Primary School.
